Members of the Uganda Parliamentary Muslim Caucus have called on the government and security agencies to launch an urgent investigation into the public leakage and viral distribution of a video linked to the high-profile Susan Magara murder case.
Addressing a press conference at Parliament on Monday morning, the lawmakers condemned the video which began circulating over the weekend—warning that it is a deliberate and malicious attempt to falsely associate a horrific criminal act with the Islamic faith and incite religious division across the country.
In the disputed footage, convicts in the Susan Magara murder trial are heard alleging that they executed the crime in the service of Islam and purportedly used ransom money extorted from Magara’s father to advance Islamic activities.
The chairperson of the caucus, MP Hassan Kirumira, strongly rejected the claims, describing the video’s circulation as an “uncalled for” provocation designed to smear the image of the Muslim community.
“Islam is a religion of peace. It does not and will never condone killing or the extortion of innocent lives,” Kirumira stated. “To link this heinous criminal act to our faith is malicious, deliberate, and entirely unacceptable. We reject that narrative in the strongest terms.”
The legislators raised serious procedural questions regarding both the origin of the video and the presentation of the convicts during court proceedings.

Lawmakers questioned why the convicts were dressed in Islamic attire including kanzus and turbans when presented before the court for sentencing, suggesting it was staged to engineer a specific narrative.
Furthermore, caucus members pressed authorities to explain how sensitive video evidence, which ought to be securely held in judicial custody, ended up on public social media channels.
“This footage is supposed to be in the strict custody of the court or law enforcement. Who leaked it, and for what purpose?” asked MP Abdallah Kiwanuka. “We demand clear answers and a thorough investigation into the source of this breach.”
Kampala Woman MP Shamim Malende urged citizens to let legal channels resolve the issue. “Do not be provoked,” Malende advised. “Our religion teaches forgiveness, patience, and justice. Let the law take its course while authorities handle this matter.”
The press conference was attended by several prominent caucus members, including MPs Bumali Mpindi, Hassan Kirumira, Abdallah Kiwanuka, Shamim Malende, Hakim Kiiza and Zahara Luyirika.
