Sports Club Villa and the wider Ugandan football community are in deep mourning following the tragic death of club captain David Owori, who passed away at Case Clinic in Kampala after sustaining severe injuries in a violent attack by suspected thugs.
The 27-year-old star was ambushed near his home in Makindye on Tuesday evening. While early rumors circulated that Owori had been involved in a motorcycle (boda boda) collision, SC Villa spokesperson Asan Kasingye officially clarified that the player was brutally assaulted by unknown assailants.
Owori was rushed to Case Hospital in critical condition, but despite emergency medical interventions, he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.

Owori served as a cornerstone of SC Villa’s recent resurgence, playing a central role in guiding the Jogoos to their historic 2023/24 Uganda Premier League (UPL) championship—the club’s 17th title and their first league trophy in two decades.
Admired across the league for his tactical discipline, exceptional work rate, and versatility, Owori comfortably filled multiple positions, including right-back, central midfield, and wide attacking roles. His leadership on and off the pitch earned him the captain’s armband and made him one of the most respected figures in domestic football.
Prior to his death, Owori had signed a contract extension keeping him with the club until January 2027 and was actively preparing to lead SC Villa in the upcoming FUFA Super 8 tournament.
Born on September 23, 1998, in Tororo, Owori began his football development with local academies, including Nsambya Young Stars, Wembley Soccer Academy, and Lukuli United:
Senior Debut (2016–2018): Launched his professional career with Vipers SC.
First SC Villa Stint (2018–2021): Established himself as a key starter for the Jogoos.
European Stints: Featured internationally for Spanish side Vélez CF and Sweden’s Utsiktens BK.
Return to Villa (Feb 2023–2026): Rejoined SC Villa to lead the squad to national glory and earn calls to Uganda national team setups.
