The state has significantly escalated its crackdown on outgoing Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among, freezing her bank accounts and severely restricting her movements to her private residence in Nakasero. This unprecedented move marks a dramatic peak in the ongoing anti-corruption purge targeting the top tier of the 12th Parliament’s leadership.
Highly placed security sources indicate that the directive to freeze Among’s accounts across various commercial banks was sanctioned following a crucial high-level security meeting held over the weekend.
The high-stakes summit, chaired by President Yoweri Museveni, brought together top security chiefs and leading investigative bodies, including the Inspectorate of Government (IG), the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), and the Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA).
The financial embargo was accompanied by a swift and aggressive physical lockdown. Elite operatives from the Special Forces Command (SFC) descended upon Among’s Nakasero residence at approximately 3:00 am on Saturday.

During the pre-dawn operation, the outgoing Speaker’s official security detail was completely disarmed and replaced by the elite military unit. The SFC has since taken full operational control of the premises, strictly regulating all entry and exit, effectively placing Among under house arrest.
The freezing of her assets and the heavy physical containment follow her recent withdrawal from the contentious Speakership race and the dramatic impounding of her Shs3.4 billion Rolls-Royce.
The state’s multi-agency probe is aggressively digging into allegations of illicit enrichment, massive corruption, and the mishandling of parliamentary expenditures during her tenure.
As the May 25 election for the new parliamentary leadership draws closer where Defence Minister Jacob Oboth-Oboth is now the clear frontrunner the tightening security ring around Among sends a chilling message across the political divide.
With her financial lifelines cut off and her physical mobility stripped, the former head of the legislature now faces an intense legal and forensic battle over her accumulated wealth and political dealings.
