In a shocking turn of events, the newly sworn-in Masaka City Woman Member of Parliament, Justine Nameere, was intercepted and arrested by plain-clothed security operatives on Friday night.
The arrest, which occurred at approximately 8:30 PM, took place as the MP was concluding a celebratory drive through Masaka City following her official swearing-in ceremony in Kampala earlier this week.
Witnesses report that Nameere’s convoy was blocked by a white Toyota Hiace a vehicle commonly referred to in local parlance as a “drone” with its number plates obscured. The interception occurred on the circular road as the MP was heading toward Liberation Square to address her supporters.
One of the supporters who was in the convoy informed Santa Media that everything was moving well until they were blocked by unknown security personnel. They stated that the operatives ordered Ms. Nameere out of her vehicle and took her away to an unknown place.
The MP was traveling in her Range Rover when the operatives struck, causing panic among the gathered crowd. As of late Friday night, her whereabouts remain unknown, and no official reason has been given for her detention.
When contacted for comment, the Southern Regional Police Spokesperson, Twaha Kasirye, stated that the police had no prior knowledge of the operation.

He mentioned that they are not aware of the said arrest but have started investigating what could have happened. He added that the force is working to verify the identity of the operatives and the motive behind the interception.
The incident has sparked immediate concern among local leaders and constituents, many of whom were still in a festive mood following the MP’s inauguration. The lack of clarity from official police channels regarding the arrest of a sitting Member of Parliament has added to the growing tension in Masaka City.
