The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has officially extended the registration deadline for the 2026 national examinations. The temporary reprieve provides vital breathing room for schools and candidates across the country struggling to beat the initial timelines.
According to a directive issued by UNEB Executive Director Dan N. Odongo, the extension is specifically designed to accommodate newly accredited examination centers, giving them sufficient time to properly upload and finalize candidate data.
However, the assessment body clarified that the adjusted grace period will apply universally across all existing examination centers nationwide.
The standard registration window for the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) is conducted completely online via UNEB’s digital portal.
This digital infrastructure helps streamline institutional data capturing but often leaves newly established centers vulnerable to system delays during processing.

The extension is expected to avert the heavy financial penalties that typically kick in as surcharges once normal registration closes. In typical examination cycles, standard registrations that slip past the official cutoff date trigger a late registration surcharge fee. These extra fees place a heavy financial burden on parents, guardians, and private schools.
UNEB authorities have strongly urged all school heads, directors, and district inspectors of schools to take full advantage of this additional window to register all eligible learners.
School administrators are strictly cautioned to verify candidate details—including correct spelling of names, dates of birth, institutional choices, and subject combinations—to avoid costly data amendment surcharges once the database is closed and sealed.
Following the final deadline, UNEB plans to run a national cleanup and validation exercise on the database before opening up its SMS-based inquiry systems, enabling parents and candidates to verify their official registration status using their mobile devices.
