President Yoweri Museveni was officially inaugurated for his seventh term (2026–2031) at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. The event featured interfaith prayers, oath-taking, symbolic handover of power, and a grand military parade.
In a vibrant display of national unity and solemn tradition, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was officially sworn in on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, to begin his seventh presidential term, set to run until 2031.
The grand ceremony at the historic Kololo Ceremonial Grounds unfolded under a spirit of prayer, celebration, and patriotic symbolism.

The President arrived at 11 a.m., warmly greeted by visiting heads of state and dignitaries from across the globe. Flanked by his daughter, Natasha Karugire, Museveni’s entrance was marked by the symbolic lowering of the presidential standard flag, formally closing the curtain on the previous 2021–2026 term.

A powerful interfaith moment set the tone for the day. Senior religious leaders, led by Rt. Rev. Sheldon Mwesigwa, Dean of the Province of Uganda, and Sheikh Shaban Ramadan Mubajje, the Mufti of Uganda, offered heartfelt prayers for the President, the First Family, and the nation. Bishop Mwesigwa made a special plea for the swift healing and recovery of First Lady Janet Museveni, who is currently unwell, while asking God to grant the President divine wisdom in choosing honest, capable, and corruption-free leaders for the new administration.
Following the prayers, Justice Simon Byabakama, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, officially declared the results of the January 15, 2026, general elections. Museveni secured a decisive victory with 71% of the valid votes, comfortably surpassing the 50% threshold.

The pinnacle of the ceremony saw Chief Justice Flavian Zeija administer the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of Office. With his hand on the Constitution, President Museveni pledged to remain faithful to the Republic of Uganda, uphold and defend its Constitution, and always serve in the best interest of its people.
After signing the official documents, Museveni was formally declared President of Uganda for the 2026–2031 term. He then received key instruments of power, including the national Constitution, flag, presidential standard, coat of arms, public seal, and the national anthem.

In a moving gesture of national defense and sovereignty, the President was presented with a shield and a general’s sword by Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba. A resounding 20-gun salute rang out across Kololo, honoring the occasion.

The event concluded with President Museveni inspecting a full parade of the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), Uganda Police, and Uganda Prisons Services , a powerful symbol of the nation’s security apparatus and collective strength.
The inauguration blended deep spiritual reflection with robust displays of state authority, setting the stage for Museveni’s continued leadership in Uganda’s next five years.
