Ugandan police have achieved a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the recent security breach at the Bank of Uganda, confirming the arrest of two key suspects linked to the overnight raid.
The development comes just days after the central bank reported an unlawful entry at its heavily fortified headquarters on Plot 45, Kampala Road, where several laptops were spirited away under the cover of darkness.
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke identified the two young men currently in custody as Boaz Michael, a 19-year-old resident of Wabigalo, and Kabuye Ramadhan, popularly known as Rhama, who hails from Nsambya Zone C in Kampala.
Following the arrests, specialized investigative units managed to recover two of the eight laptops reported stolen during the breach. Rusoke noted that the suspects are being held as the legal process moves forward, and they are expected to be arraigned before the court in due course as more details of the operation come to light.

The security lapse was first detected on the morning of Monday, May 4, 2026. Kenneth Egesa, the Director of Communications at the Bank of Uganda, previously confirmed that the intruders targeted the central bank’s shorter tower located near City Square, a high-profile location nestled between Church House and the East African Development Bank Tower. The thieves reportedly gained entry to the premises overnight, bypassing standard security measures to secure the high-end hardware.
While the loss of equipment at such a sensitive institution has raised public eyebrows, the Bank of Uganda has been quick to manage concerns regarding financial stability.
In an official statement, the bank assured the public that the incident was confined to the physical theft of specific hardware and did not penetrate the systems that govern the nation’s financial heart. Management reiterated that all core operations and services remain fully functional and have not suffered any disruption.
As the joint investigation between the police and specialized security agencies continues, the focus has shifted toward recovering the remaining six laptops and determining how the suspects managed to infiltrate one of the most protected buildings in the country.
For now, authorities are emphasizing that the arrest of Michael and Ramadhan is a major step toward closing the case and addressing the vulnerabilities exposed by the bold heist.
