Football isn’t just a game, it’s a lifeline and no one proves that better than 14-year-old Ethan Nathan Mwanje from Najjemba in Wakiso District, Uganda!
This incredible young Gunners fanatic, who plays football on crutches despite his disability, first stole the Arsenal community’s heart with footage of him tirelessly training on a rough, dusty local pitch. For Ethan, the beautiful game is therapy: “It helps me overcome the evil memories and lifts my spirits,” he shared powerfully.
But Arsenal and the Premier League had something even bigger in store. They orchestrated the ultimate surprise—a live video call with Ethan’s absolute idol, midfield maestro Declan Rice!
Dressed in his proud Arsenal jacket, Ethan was left completely speechless when Rice’s face popped up on screen. “Right now, even I want to cry,” the stunned teen admitted, fighting back tears.
The chat was pure gold, Ethan curiously asked about Rice’s own football beginnings, and the England star replied with a grin, “It started when I could first start to walk!” Rice then dropped the bombshell—holding up a fresh Arsenal jersey, promising to sign it personally with “Ethan Nathan” on the back and send it straight to Uganda.
“One day, we are gonna meet,” Rice assured him, sealing the deal. Ethan’s emotional response? A tearful “I love you, Declan Rice!”
