More than ten people have sustained serious injuries and several others remain trapped under heavy debris after a church building linked to prominent Kampala pastor Brother Ronnie Makabai collapsed in Kawuku on Monday evening.
The disaster occurred at a sprawling construction site where workers were actively erecting the structural framework of the new church facility.
Emergency rescue operations were launched immediately, with first responders and local volunteers evacuating over ten victims from the collapsed concrete and steel rubble by press time. The injured were rushed to Entebbe Grade B Hospital and Kisubi Hospital for emergency medical stabilization.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Edith Natukunda, the Entebbe Community Liaison Officer, confirmed the structural failure, stating that police units had cordoned off the site to facilitate uninterrupted rescue efforts.

“The church that has been under construction has collapsed, burying people,” ASP Natukunda confirmed. “The scene of crime is under control by Entebbe police officers. The ambulance has taken victims to Entebbe Grade B and some to Kisubi Hospital.”
Providing an update on the condition of the survivors, Natukunda noted that while most of the rescued workers were responding to emergency care, at least one victim remained in critical condition.
“One person is in critical condition, but the first people who were evacuated are getting better,” she added. “Over 10 people have so far been evacuated.”
Police and emergency response teams have established a perimeter around the collapsed site as heavy extraction equipment is deployed to clear the debris and locate any construction workers still buried underneath.
The cause of the sudden structural collapse had not been established by publication time, and site engineers and police forensic experts are expected to examine the structural integrity and building permits of the ongoing project.
