President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has officially commissioned the new Kampala Marriott Hotel and Marriott Executive Apartments in Nsambya, marking a major addition to the capital’s high-end tourism and hospitality infrastructure.
The President inaugurated the ultra-modern twin-tower complex on Thursday, August 27, 2026, during a ceremony that included the formal handover of the hotel keys.
The 5-star development is owned by prominent Ugandan entrepreneur Ponsiano Ngabirano—the founder and proprietor of the Capital Shoppers supermarket chain—under an exclusive franchise agreement with Marriott International. The strategic arrangement enables the local investor to leverage Marriott’s global operational systems, brand identity, and worldwide reservation network.
The government supported the development as part of its economic agenda to expand five-star hotel capacity and attract high-spending international business and leisure travelers.

Positioned along Ggaba Road, the luxury complex physically reshapes the skyline of Nsambya Hill with a skybridge connecting its twin towers. The property opened its doors to guests earlier in June prior to Thursday’s official commissioning.
The facility boasts a total accommodation capacity of 277 units:
• 181 standard guest rooms and luxury suites
• 96 fully serviced executive apartments equipped with self-contained kitchens, specifically designed for long-stay corporate, diplomatic, and executive clients.
Additionally, the complex features three signature restaurants, multiple bars and lounges, a luxury spa, a 24-hour fitness center, and an outdoor swimming pool. Its meeting infrastructure includes six high-tech conference venues, with its largest ballroom accommodating up to 985 guests for major conventions and social gatherings.
This property marks the official entry of Marriott International’s flagship Marriott Hotels brand into Uganda. While Marriott already operates other properties in the country under its extended portfolio—such as the Sheraton Kampala, Protea Hotels, and Four Points by Sheraton—this is the first time the primary flagship brand is deployed in the country.
Marriott executives noted that the decision to bring its flagship brand to Kampala was motivated by Uganda’s strong post-pandemic tourism recovery and surging demand from corporate travelers. Figures cited from tourism authorities reveal that international visitor arrivals topped 1.64 million in 2025.
The commissioning was attended by top government officials, diplomats, and prominent business figures, including businessmen Sudhir Ruparelia, Godfrey Kirumira, Hamis Kiggundu, Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa, and Papal Nuncio Emeritus Augustine Kasujja, who met with Mr. Ngabirano ahead of the proceedings.
The opening reinforces Nsambya’s emergence as a prime commercial and hospitality enclave, given its strategic proximity to the Kampala Central Business District, key diplomatic missions like the US Embassy, major medical centers, and shopping districts.
