A dark cloud has enveloped Kalungu Zone in Bunga, Ggaba Parish, after a 43-year-old Kenyan woman allegedly stabbed her five children, killing two, before attempting suicide and setting a vehicle on fire early Thursday morning.
The gruesome incident, which investigators suspect was triggered by a severe domestic dispute, occurred at approximately 4:00 a.m. within Makindye Division.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police South, operating through the Kabalagala Police Division, the horror was discovered by the family’s housemaid. The maid was awakened in the early hours by desperate cries for help emanating from the main house. Upon forcing her way into the residence to investigate, she was met with a bloody scene and discovered the children suffering from severe stab wounds.
Authorities have confirmed the identities of the deceased children. Fourteen-year-old Khadija Daizy was found dead in her bedroom, having succumbed to her wounds at the scene. Her younger sister, 7-year-old Hawa Dalena, was rushed for emergency treatment but tragically succumbed to her injuries shortly after arriving at Nsambya Hospital.
The three surviving siblings, aged 13, 8, and 5, were rescued from the house and are currently hospitalized, receiving urgent medical care for their stab wounds.
The prime suspect, identified as the children’s mother, Dorothy Namayo, a Kenyan national, was found at the scene with severe self-inflicted injuries. She was transported to Mulago National Referral Hospital, where she is currently admitted under strict police guard.

The violent rampage also extended to property damage. During the early morning melee, a Toyota Hiace van parked at the residence was set ablaze and completely destroyed. The Directorate of Fire Prevention and Rescue Services responded to the scene to extinguish the flames. While putting out the fire, rescue teams recovered a jerrycan suspected to have contained the petrol used to ignite the van.
A combined team of homicide detectives, Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO), and forensic personnel spent the morning examining the residence and gathering material exhibits to piece together the exact sequence of events.
Addressing the media on the tragedy, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed that the bodies of the deceased juveniles were conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examinations.
Owoyesigyire stated that police have already recorded statements from the housemaid who reported the incident, as well as other relevant witnesses. He emphasized that the suspect remains under police guard at the hospital as inquiries continue to establish the definitive motive behind the horrific attack.
The case has been formally registered at Kabalagala Police Station, with ongoing investigations focusing on charges of murder, attempted murder, and arson.
