Ugandan music icon Joseph Mayanja, popularly known as Jose Chameleone, met Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan during the highly celebrated 2026 Kizimkazi Festival in Zanzibar.
The legendary singer was among the top-tier music stars who attended the vibrant three-day event, which ran from August 12 to August 14, 2026, at the Dimbani and Mchangamle coastal grounds in South Unguja.
The annual festival has steadily grown beyond a simple music gathering into a massive platform that blends world-class entertainment with culture, tourism, and business.
This year’s extensive program featured a rich mix of activities, including 20 traditional dhow races, live musical performances, sports competitions, food exhibitions, and the launch of several community development projects.
Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi officially opened the festival on August 12 at the Dimbani grounds. During the launch, he challenged event organizers and local stakeholders to leverage the festival’s growing profile to heavily market the islands on an international scale.
President Mwinyi emphasized that the festival is a prime avenue for attracting both tourists and investors, particularly in unlocking the vast opportunities within Zanzibar’s blue economy. He pointed to the island’s pristine beaches, historic buildings, spices, wildlife, and deep cultural heritage as major draws for domestic and foreign visitors.
