A massive police manhunt has been launched across Kampala following a horrifying daylight attack at the Nsambya traffic lights along Ggaba Road. A highly organized gang of thugs ambushed and violently robbed two individuals in the middle of traffic, an incident that has sparked widespread public outrage and renewed fears over urban security.
Although the attack reportedly occurred on May 6, 2026, around 11:30 a.m., it recently grabbed national attention after a graphic, fast-paced video of the ambush resurfaced and went viral on social media on Tuesday, June 9.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) Deputy Spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the victims were actively trailed and intercepted shortly after withdrawing an undisclosed but substantial amount of cash from a local forex bureau. The coordinated nature of the attack points to trailing syndicates that target individuals conducting large financial transactions.
“The incident involved a group of assailants who attacked two victims before robbing them of cash. Upon receiving the initial report, police immediately commenced investigations,” ASP Owoyesigyire confirmed.
He assured the public that detectives from the Kabalagala Police Division have made significant headway. The investigative team has already visited and thoroughly documented the crime scene, recorded crucial statements from eyewitnesses, and retrieved surrounding CCTV footage to digitally identify the perpetrators.
“Efforts to identify, trace, and apprehend all the suspects involved are ongoing. We wish to reassure the public that every effort is being made to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Owoyesigyire added, urging citizens with any actionable information to report to the nearest police station.
The Nsambya attack highlights a worrying and persistent trend of brazen, daylight robberies targeting individuals carrying large sums of money in the capital. This surge is heavily corroborated by the findings in the newly released 2025 Police Annual Crime Report, which paints a grim picture of cash-related crimes.

While general robberies countrywide experienced a minor 3.7% drop (falling from 8,163 cases in 2024 to 7,863 in 2025), targeted cash heists have skyrocketed.
Key Statistics from the 2025 Crime Report:
• Cash Robberies: Surged drastically by 37.2%, jumping from 573 cases in 2024 to 786 cases in 2025.
• Prosecution Gap: Out of the 786 cash robbery cases reported last year, only 200 made it to court, leaving 514 under active, unresolved inquiry.
• Aggravated Robberies: Incidents where criminals deployed lethal weapons—such as firearms, machetes, knives, and hammers—rose by 6.7%, reaching 2,101 cases nationwide.
The crime report further cements Kampala Metropolitan’s status as the absolute epicenter of organized robbery syndicates in Uganda. The capital jurisdiction registered the highest numbers of total robberies across the country.
Top Robbery Hotspots (2025):
1. KMP North: 1,007 cases
2. KMP South: 779 cases (Jurisdiction of the Nsambya attack)
3. KMP East: 669 cases
4. Rwizi Region: 567 cases (Highest outside the capital)
5. North Kyoga: 429 cases
The re-emergence of the terrifying Nsambya video has placed renewed public pressure on the Uganda Police Force to dismantle the criminal gangs operating at major city intersections. In the meantime, security experts are urging the public to exercise extreme vigilance and utilize secure digital banking alternatives when transferring large financial sums to avoid falling victim to these deadly trailing syndicates.
