President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Tuesday officially received His Excellency William W. Popp, the outgoing Ambassador of the United States to Uganda, at the State Lodge in Nakasero.
The farewell engagement, which forms part of routine diplomatic protocol as envoys transition to new postings, marked the conclusion of Ambassador Popp’s tour of duty in the country. A new United States Ambassador to Uganda is expected to be appointed in the coming months.
In a public statement shared on his official X account, President Museveni expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Popp for his dedicated service over the past years.
The President commended the outgoing diplomat for his significant contributions toward strengthening the cordial relations between Uganda and the United States.
“We discussed matters of mutual interest and cooperation between our two countries,” President Museveni stated, reflecting on the high-level talks held during the meeting.
Photographs released from the engagement showed President Museveni and Ambassador Popp deep in discussion at the State Lodge, highlighting the amicable nature of the diplomatic visit. The President also took the opportunity to wish Ambassador Popp success in his future assignments and professional endeavours.
