Commuters and motorists on the perennially busy Kampala–Jinja Highway are facing massive delays this morning following a major fire outbreak at the Mogas fuel station in Seeta.
The incident, which began early today, Wednesday, April 15, 2026, has forced the police to cordone off the area as the Fire and Rescue Services battle to prevent a catastrophic explosion.
According to an official statement released by the Uganda Police, firefighting teams were dispatched swiftly to the scene. While the blaze is being contained, the situation remains active. The cause of the fire is currently unknown, with investigators waiting for the site to be fully secured before beginning their assessment.

The fire has sent plumes of thick smoke across the highway, causing panic among local residents and business owners in the Seeta trading center.
Traffic Diversions: How to Beat the Jam
With the main highway effectively choked near the fuel station, the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety has issued urgent diversion guidelines to prevent total gridlock. Motorists are advised to follow these alternative routes:
• From Mukono to Kampala: Divert at Seeta and use the Sonde Road through Namugongo to enter the city.
• From Kampala to Mukono: Use the Jookas route through Namanve Industrial Park. Alternatively, take the Northern Bypass via Naalya–Sonde–Seeta.
Traffic officers have been deployed at key junctions to guide drivers, but heavy congestion is already being reported as far back as Bweyogerere and Mukono town.
Police have urged the public to stay clear of the immediate vicinity of the fuel station to allow emergency vehicles easy access. “We ask for patience from the motoring public as we work to restore normalcy and ensure everyone’s safety,” the police statement read.
As of now, no casualties have been officially confirmed. Santa Media Uganda is monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates as soon as more details on the cause and the extent of the damage are released.
