The Kampala Metropolitan Police have arrested 93 suspects in a massive intelligence-led security sweep along the Northern Bypass, targeting a spike in criminal activities around the Busega and Kyengera flyovers.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Rachael Kawala, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, the operation was executed on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, targeting the evening rush hour between 7:00 PM (1900hrs) and 11:00 PM (2300hrs).
The swoop follows actionable intelligence regarding criminals taking advantage of evening traffic snarl-ups to waylay, mug, and snatch valuables from unsuspecting motorists and pedestrians.

“Following intelligence gathered regarding suspected criminal activities along the Northern Bypass, particularly around Busega and Kyengera Flyover, an intelligence-led operation was conducted to address suspected criminal activity during the evening traffic hours,” SP Kawala stated.
Of the 93 suspects apprehended during the four-hour crackdown, four are female. The suspects are currently in police custody pending screening, profiling, and subsequent arraignment in court.
The Northern Bypass, particularly the sections connecting Busega and Kyengera, has periodically faced security challenges with criminal gangs targeting commuters returning home during peak evening hours. The police have vowed to maintain a heightened presence to guarantee the safety of road users.
