The King of Tooro, Omukama Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, has named Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire as the kingdom’s interim Prime Minister to steer administration during a six-month transition period.
The development was formally communicated by Paul Nyakana Businge, Principal Secretary to the King, in an official statement issued on behalf of the monarch.
Rwomiire, who served as Prime Minister during the reign of the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, will maintain operational oversight over kingdom affairs as the administration reorganises under the new reign.
In the royal appointments, Omukama Nyabongo retained Prince Charles Kayondo Kamurasi Akiiki as the Omusuga of Tooro (Chief Prince and head of the Babiito Royal Clan). Prince Kato Benard Rwakatale Abbooki, who previously served as an assistant in the Omusuga’s office, was appointed as his deputy.

To reinforce governance during the transition, the monarch also constituted an 11-member interim advisory committee. The committee comprises Erisa Kakyomya, Peace Mutuuzo, Chris Kaijuka, Isaiah Mayombo, Benald Tungwako, Flavia Kabahenda, Aston Kajara, Binta Kasoojo, Abdullah Mangalija, William Byaruhanga, and Monica Rubombora.
The six-month transition follows the installation of Omukama Nyabongo I after the passing of King Oyo on August 27, 2026, ending a 31-year reign that began in 1995 when Oyo was enthroned at the age of three. Nyabongo’s accession came after weeks of internal discussions and differing positions among royal family members and key stakeholders regarding the succession.
The new leadership structure aims to bridge institutional continuity with structural reforms as the kingdom prepares its long-term administrative roadmap.
