Police in Kabalagala have arrested 12 Senior One students aged between 14 and 17 following the widespread circulation of a disturbing video on social media showing the violent assault of a teenage boy in Kampala.
The arrests took place during an intelligence-led operation conducted on September 17 and early Friday morning, September 18, in Nakibinge Zone, Kibuli Parish, Makindye Division.
The crackdown was triggered by graphic footage showing a group of youths surrounding a 16-year-old boy in a school uniform on a muddy street near Kibuli. In the video, as the unsuspecting victim stands talking to someone off-camera, another teenager wearing a red t-shirt approaches from the side and delivers a devastating punch directly to the side of the victim’s neck.
The force of the blow rendered the teenager instantly unconscious, causing him to collapse head-first onto the ground. The assailant and several accomplices immediately fled the scene.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala, detectives traced the suspects to Nakibinge Zone, executing final arrests around 2:00 AM on Friday.
“The prime suspect is aged 16 years, while preliminary investigations have established that the other suspects are also minors aged between 14 and 17 years,” SP Kawala confirmed.
Police investigations indicate that the assault occurred on September 13 at approximately 6:00 PM. The victim, also aged 16, survived the assault and is currently receiving medical treatment at his mother’s home in Nakibinge Zone.
The viral nature of the clip sparked intense public outrage online, with citizens and child rights advocates calling for swift justice and increased safety enforcement in school neighborhoods.
Addressing public concern, SP Kawala stated that detectives are continuing to interrogate the suspects to establish the exact motive behind the attack and determine the specific individual roles played by each minor.
“The Uganda Police Force strongly condemns acts of violence, particularly those involving minors, and remains committed to safeguarding the safety and dignity of all persons,” Kawala said. She emphasized that suspects found culpable of unlawful conduct will be processed strictly in accordance with laws and procedures governing juvenile offenders in Uganda.
