Kampala socialite Bryan Kirumira, popularly known as Bryan White, has been granted mandatory bail by the High Court after spending nearly 10 months behind bars.
Justice Paul Gadenya Wolimbwa ordered his release on Friday, ruling that the accused had spent 293 days on remand at Luzira Upper Prison without being committed to the High Court for trial. The judge noted that Bryan White had far exceeded the constitutionally required 180-day remand period for capital offenses.
Bryan White was arrested in November 2025 and faces multiple grave charges, including human sacrifice, manslaughter, rash and negligent acts, possession of a narcotic drug, and giving false information.
The Tragic Death of Carol Nalubwama
The charges stem from the unfortunate passing of 25-year-old Caroline “Carol” Nalubwama, who succumbed to severe burn injuries sustained on October 22, 2025, at Bryan White’s residence in Kyamula Zone, Makindye Division.
Initially, Bryan White told police detectives that the severe injuries were the result of a gas cylinder explosion while she was cooking. Nalubwama was transferred to a hospital for treatment but later succumbed to the burns.
However, prosecution alleges that the gas cylinder narrative was false information meant to mislead investigators. State prosecutors allege that Nalubwama was actually killed for the purposes of performing witchcraft or a ritual practice.

Strict Bail Conditions
While delivering the ruling, Justice Wolimbwa rejected the prosecution’s argument that Bryan White was a flight risk and could interfere with witnesses. However, the judge imposed highly stringent conditions to secure his release:
Financial Guarantee: A cash deposit of Shs 10 million and a non-cash bond of Shs 50 million for each of his two sureties.
Travel Restrictions: He was ordered to surrender his passport and any other travel documents to the court.
Crime Scene Ban: He is strictly barred from returning to his home in Badongo village, Makindye, which prosecutors still classify as an active crime scene.
No Contact Order: He is prohibited from contacting any state witnesses, his co-accused, or members of the deceased’s family.
Bryan White was also permitted by the court to seek private medical treatment at his own expense for burn injuries and skin grafts he reportedly suffered during the incident.
