In a profound display of cultural brotherhood and respect, Busoga Kingdom has officially announced the postponement of the 12th Coronation Anniversary celebrations of the Kyabazinga, His Majesty William Gabula Nadiope IV.
The decision was made to honor the memory and mourn the sudden passing of the Omukama of Tooro, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who recently passed away in the United States at the age of 34.
The Busoga coronation anniversary, traditionally a period of massive jubilation, cultural exhibition, and kingdom-wide festivities expected this September, had been in advanced stages of preparation. However, following the tragic news from Fort Portal, the Kyabazinga directed that all celebratory activities be halted indefinitely.

In a statement issued by the Busoga Kingdom administration, the Katuukiro (Prime Minister) of Busoga expressed deep sorrow over the loss of King Oyo, describing him as a “brother, a beacon of youth leadership, and a steadfast pillar among Uganda’s traditional leaders.”
“Busoga and Tooro share deep historical, cultural, and fraternal ties. It is culturally unbefitting for us to engage in jubilation while our brothers and sisters in Tooro are weeping,” the Kingdom’s administration noted. “His Majesty the Kyabazinga has therefore directed that we stand in absolute solidarity with the Babiito Royal Family and the people of Tooro during this dark hour.”
The two kingdoms have historically enjoyed a warm relationship, frequently collaborating on youth empowerment, tourism promotion, and cultural preservation initiatives under the reigns of both the Kyabazinga and the late Omukama.
The organizing committee for the 12th Coronation Anniversary has been instructed to suspend all mobilization efforts. According to kingdom officials at the Bugembe headquarters, new dates for the Kyabazinga’s coronation anniversary will only be communicated after the late King Oyo has been accorded a dignified state and cultural send-off.
The announcement from Busoga comes as tensions and closed-door meetings continue within Tooro’s Babiito Royal Clan regarding the late King’s succession and official funeral arrangements.
