Uganda Confirms Three New Ebola Cases Amid Cross-Border Threat

Barely 48 hours after President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni reassured the nation that there were zero active cases within its borders, the Ministry of Health has officially confirmed three new cases of the deadly Ebola virus in Uganda.

The grim development shatters the preemptive safety net and escalates the public health threat to a full-blown national emergency.

The confirmation was announced on Saturday, May 23, 2026, by health authorities who have been aggressively monitoring high-risk border zones.

According to preliminary reports, the three individuals tested positive after presenting with severe hemorrhagic fever symptoms at a designated isolation facility near the western border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The patients, whose identities have been withheld for medical privacy, are currently receiving intensive care under strict bio-security protocols. Ministry of Health rapid response teams, epidemiological trackers, and the World Health Organization (WHO) are now frantically tracing all known contacts of the three individuals to ring-fence the virus and prevent a wider community transmission.

The confirmed cases represent a critical test for Uganda’s health infrastructure, coming just days after the government imposed a nationwide ban on mass gatherings and halted non-essential civilian travel across the DRC border.

The earlier postponement of the historic June 3 Martyrs’ Day celebrations at Namugongo now appears to have been a highly prescient move by the National Epidemic Response Task Force.

In light of the new infections, the Ministry of Health has renewed its urgent appeal to the public. Citizens are instructed to completely avoid physical contact with persons showing symptoms such as sudden high fever, vomiting, muscle pain, and unexplained bleeding. The government is expected to announce further, potentially stricter, containment measures in the coming days as the situation develops.
