In a dramatic day of testimony at the Ggaba Mobile High Court, a digital forensic expert has unveiled a chilling minute-by-minute reconstruction of Christopher Okello Onyum’s movements, suggesting the suspect conducted a “dry run” just 24 hours before the massacre of four toddlers.
Assistant Inspector of Police Emmanuel Odongo, a CCTV analyst from the National Command and Control Centre, appeared as the 13th prosecution witness on Monday. He presented a comprehensive report and a 10-minute video summary that placed Okello at the crime scene both on the eve of the attack and the fateful morning of April 2, 2026.
AIP Odongo’s evidence traced Okello’s Toyota RAV4 across Kampala’s police surveillance network, starting from Kyanja and moving through the city center toward Ggaba.
A critical piece of evidence came from private cameras at Renewal SACCO, located directly behind the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre. The footage, recorded shortly after midday on the day before the murders, shows Okello parking his vehicle and meticulously checking the door locks before walking toward the school.
“He returned to the vehicle 11 minutes later,” Odongo testified. However, the expert pointed out a glaring anomaly: after leaving Ggaba, the vehicle disappeared into a 500-meter “blind spot” between Ggaba and Bunga. “A distance of 500 meters cannot take one hour and 40 minutes,” Odongo noted, implying a deliberate stop in an unmonitored area.

On the day of the killings, the court heard that Okello abandoned the car and switched to a motorcycle. Police cameras captured him as a passenger emerging from Nanjala Road, heading toward Ggaba-Kawuku junction while carrying a backpack.
Odongo used “dress code identification” to link the individual on the motorcycle to the man arrested shortly after the attack. The expert also highlighted a grim timeline: private cameras at Wentz Medical Centre recorded the first victim being rushed in at 11:20 AM, followed by two others within four minutes. The gap between Okello being seen near the scene and the victims arriving at the clinic was just over an hour.
The prosecution bolstered the CCTV evidence with testimony from Hashim Juma, a car rental director. Juma confirmed that Okello had hired the RAV4 but repeatedly reported mechanical failures, eventually parking it at a Shell station on Jinja Road.
Juma testified that after advising Okello to leave the car for repairs, he offered a refund so the suspect could find other transport. “After two days, I saw the news on TikTok that Okello had killed children in Ggaba,” Juma told the court, providing the missing link between the vehicle in the footage and the suspect in the dock.
Presiding Justice Alice Komuhangi Khaukha admitted the CCTV report and footage as formal evidence. The detailed digital trail appears to be a cornerstone of the prosecution’s case, aimed at proving premeditation and placing the suspect at the heart of the crime scene.
As the 13th witness concluded his testimony, the mood at the Ggaba Community Church grounds remained heavy, with the community watching as the digital net closes in on the events of April 2nd.
