In a raw and emotional revelation, veteran Ugandan media personality Faridah Nakazibwe has opened up about a painful breakup triggered by her unwavering commitment to her foster daughter, Briella. The NTV Uganda presenter shared the deeply personal story during a candid interview, shedding light on the challenges of blending love, family, and public scrutiny in the spotlight.
Nakazibwe, celebrated for her poise on Mwasuze Mutya and Login Extra, has long been admired for her resilience. Yet behind the camera, she has faced profound personal trials none more poignant than her decision to end a romantic relationship to protect the three-year-old girl she now calls her own.

The story begins with heartbreak of a different kind. At just 18 months old, Briella lost her biological mother, Racheal Nasasira, to sudden health complications. Custody initially fell to singer Bruno K, Nasasira’s partner and Briella’s father. However, Nakazibwe moved by compassion and a sense of duty stepped in to assume full responsibility.
“I met Briella when she was barely walking,” Nakazibwe recalled, her voice softening. “Her mother’s passing left a void, and I couldn’t bear the thought of her growing up without stability. Bruno was willing, but I felt called to raise her as my own.”
What began as a foster arrangement quickly blossomed into an unbreakable maternal bond. Nakazibwe legally formalized her role, integrating Briella into her family alongside her biological children. For the past year and a half, the toddler has known no other mother.
Fresh from a previous heartbreak, Nakazibwe was cautious when a new suitor entered her life. The man, whose identity remains private, expressed genuine interest in building a future together. Initially hesitant, the TV star agreed to explore the connection.
“We started slowly,” she explained. “I was healing, and trust doesn’t come easily after pain. But he seemed understanding until Briella became the centerpiece of our conversations.”

As the relationship deepened, Nakazibwe began introducing her partner to her household, including her children. Briella, now three, was naturally part of that circle. What should have been a heartwarming integration turned into a source of tension.
“He told me outright that he didn’t like Briella,” Nakazibwe said, shaking her head in disbelief. “Not because of anything she did, she was just a baby but because she wasn’t my biological child.”

The situation escalated rapidly. Arguments became routine, with Briella’s presence at the heart of every dispute. Nakazibwe described a pattern of escalating demands that left her stunned.
“He suggested I send her back to her biological father,” she revealed. “He even offered to pay for a full-time nanny if I kept her out of our shared spaces. It was as if her existence was an inconvenience.”
The breaking point came when the man issued a stark ultimatum: choose the relationship or choose Briella. His reasoning? Public perception of Bruno K, amplified by social media narratives, made him uncomfortable with the child’s lineage.
“He said he couldn’t handle the optics,” Nakazibwe shared. “That Briella’s connection to Bruno K however distant in daily life would always cast a shadow. I was floored. She’s three. She doesn’t understand headlines or gossip.”
Faced with an impossible choice, Nakazibwe asked for 48 hours to respond. In that time, she reflected on Briella’s laughter, her tiny hugs, and the promise she had made to Racheal Nasasira’s memory.
“I knew what I had to do,” she said firmly. “I called him and said, ‘Briella is my daughter. She stays. We’re done.’ He thought I was bluffing. I wasn’t.”
The breakup was swift and final. Nakazibwe blocked all contact, prioritizing Briella’s emotional security over romantic prospects. “I saw the future,” she added. “If he could reject her now, he’d eventually ask me to choose between him and all my children. That door had to close.”
Nakazibwe’s story has resonated deeply across Uganda, sparking conversations about foster parenting, blended families, and the unique pressures faced by public figures. Social media platforms have seen a surge in support under hashtags like #TeamFaridah and #MotherhoodUnfiltered, with many praising her courage.
Parenting experts note that her experience highlights a broader issue: the stigma sometimes attached to non-biological children in romantic partnerships. “Love isn’t conditional on DNA,” said Dr. Sarah Kizza, a Kampala-based family therapist. “Nakazibwe’s choice reflects the highest form of maternal integrity.”
For her part, Nakazibwe harbors no regrets. “Briella calls me ‘Mummy,’” she smiled. “That title was earned through sleepless nights, doctor visits, and every sacrifice in between. No relationship will ever ask me to trade that.”
