Kikuube LCV Chairperson Peter Banur Alaari Dead in Road Accident

Peter Banur Alaari, the LCV Chairman of Kikuube District, has passed away following a fatal road crash. Read about his legacy and the impact on Bunyoro leadership.

The Bunyoro sub-region is reeling from the sudden loss of one of its most prominent local leaders, Peter Banur Alaari, the LCV Chairperson for Kikuube District, who perished in a road accident on Saturday.

The news of his passing has sent shockwaves through the local government fraternity and the political landscape of Western Uganda, marking a somber end to a week already marred by national tragedy.

While full details from the police traffic department are still being compiled, preliminary reports indicate that the chairperson was involved in a high-impact collision. Emergency responders at the scene confirmed that Banur succumbed to his injuries before he could be stabilized for specialized medical care.

The wreckage of the vehicle, which has been recovered by authorities, underscores the severity of the crash. Police have cordoned off the scene to determine whether mechanical failure, road conditions, or other external factors contributed to the fatal event.

Peter Banur Alaari was widely regarded as a hands-on administrator who championed the interests of Kikuube since its inception. Known for his vocal stance on land rights and regional development within the Albertine rift, his leadership was instrumental in navigating the complex challenges of a rapidly growing district.

Colleagues in the Kikuube District Council described him as a “unifying figure” who was deeply committed to the NRM’s service delivery agenda. His death leaves a significant vacuum in the district’s executive leadership at a critical time for local government planning.

As news of the accident spread, tributes from fellow district leaders, Members of Parliament, and the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom have flooded social media.

“We have lost a pillar of development and a dedicated servant of the people,” noted one local official. “Peter Banur didn’t just sit in his office; he was always on the ground, ensuring that the voices of the people of Kikuube were heard at the national level.”

Burial Arrangements

The Kikuube District administration is expected to hold an emergency session to coordinate with the family for official funeral arrangements. A formal statement from the Ministry of Local Government is also anticipated, as the state prepares to bid farewell to one of its most active district chairpersons.
