Uganda’s current fuel stocks are sufficient to meet national demand until the end of April 2026, with petrol at 81 million litres (22 days), diesel at 80 million litres (23 days), and Jet A-1 at 18.5 million litres (30 days). The government has assured the public there is no immediate risk of fuel shortage.
The Government of Uganda has confirmed that the country currently holds adequate petroleum reserves to meet short-term national demand, with existing stocks projected to sustain the country comfortably until the end of April 2026.
According to the latest update released on 27th March 2026, Uganda’s fuel stocks stand as follows:
• Petrol: 81 million litres (equivalent to 22 days of cover)
• Diesel: 80 million litres (equivalent to 23 days of cover)
• Jet A-1 (Aviation Fuel): 18.5 million litres (equivalent to 30 days of cover)
These volumes are described as sufficient to keep the inland supply chain stable and fully meet domestic requirements through the end of next month.
The reassurance comes amid ongoing global concerns over oil supply disruptions, particularly due to tensions in the Middle East. However, government officials have maintained that current reserves, combined with planned import deliveries in the coming weeks, will prevent any immediate shortages.
This update aims to calm public anxiety and assure motorists, businesses, and the aviation sector that fuel supply remains secure in the short term. Authorities have not indicated any expected price changes or supply interruptions in the immediate future.
Motorists and businesses are nevertheless encouraged to continue normal consumption patterns while the government continues monitoring the international situation and incoming shipments.
The statement was widely circulated by official government channels and local media outlets following the March 27 data release.
No immediate comments were available on longer-term strategies beyond April, though earlier briefings had mentioned expected arrivals of hundreds of millions of litres of additional fuel to extend cover well into the following months.
