First Batch of 2026 Presidential Ballots Arrives in Uganda

Uganda’s Electoral Commission kicks off 2026 election prep as the first batch of presidential ballot papers lands at Entebbe – with Chairman Justice Simon Byabakama personally overseeing the arrival!

Last night, the Electoral Commission (EC) received the first huge consignment of presidential ballot papers for the January 15 polls. EC Chairman Justice Simon Byabakama was right there on the tarmac, personally watching as workers offloaded 193 pallets fresh from Dubai.

“Security is our top priority,” Byabakama said, confirming the ballots are heading straight to secure warehouses. He also revealed a second shipment – this one with parliamentary ballots – is due today, on Christmas Day.

With over 21.4 million registered voters, the EC is printing extra papers on purpose. It’s all legal, Byabakama explained: if someone accidentally spoils their ballot on polling day, they can get a replacement without any drama or disenfranchisement.

After the presidential vote in mid-January, Ugandans head back to the polls in February for local government councillors.

Of course, all eyes are on veteran President Yoweri Museveni, who’s running again against a field of opposition challengers.

The EC is calling on everyone – candidates, supporters, security – to keep things peaceful as these sensitive materials get distributed to all 146 districts.
