Veteran singer and Gagamel boss Bebe Cool has dropped a bombshell, declaring himself the unlikely catalyst who pushed his longtime rival Bobi Wine into the political arena.
Appearing on a local TV station, Bebe Cool reminded viewers that he was openly campaigning for President Museveni and the NRM long before Bobi Wine ever considered running for office. His 2015 track “Ekisanja,” aimed at securing Museveni another term, was proof of his early commitment.
“I was already deep in this game when Kyagulanyi arrived,” Bebe Cool stated. “He saw that a musician could stand up, speak out, and influence politics. That example definitely played a part in his decision to jump in.”
The two artists, roughly the same age, have been locked in one of Uganda’s most famous rivalries for years. Many expected Bebe Cool to side with the youthful opposition wave Bobi Wine came to represent, but ideology kept them firmly on opposite sides.

Bebe Cool explained why he never crossed over. “If Bobi Wine had shown me a clear vision, a real manifesto that convinced me he could move Uganda forward better than the current leadership, I would have supported him without hesitation. It’s not about the person, it’s about the plan for the country.”
He accused Bobi Wine of lacking substance. “I’ve waited years to hear proper policies from him, but it’s always attacks instead of solutions. Even on TV, when asked for his manifesto, he just flashed Museveni’s instead of his own. That tells you everything.”
