Veteran musician Ragga Dee demands UGX 300M from Mikie Wine for allegedly plagiarizing his classic ‘Oyagala Cash’ in the new track ‘Zuena.’
Uganda’s music scene is heating up as veteran artist Ragga Dee, born Daniel Kazibwe, has issued a stern legal threat against fellow musician Mikie Wine, accusing him of song plagiarism. The dispute centers on Mikie Wine’s recent release, Zuena, which bears a striking resemblance to Ragga Dee’s iconic 2004 hit, Oyagala Cash. In Zuena, Mikie Wine, the brother of Bobi Wine, sings about a lover driven by materialism, echoing themes from Ragga Dee’s classic track.
On July 16, 2025, Ragga Dee, through his legal team at MDG Law Advocates, sent a formal notice to Mikie Wine, alleging copyright infringement. According to the legal document, Ragga Dee secured a copyright for Nkuguddemu Oyagala Cash in 2004 and has exclusively performed it for 21 years. The notice claims Mikie Wine reproduced and performed the song without permission, violating Uganda’s Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act (Cap 222).
Ragga Dee is demanding UGX 300 million in compensation within seven days, threatening legal action if Mikie Wine fails to comply. The bold move has sparked a firestorm online, with fans debating whether Zuena crosses the line from inspiration to plagiarism. Mikie Wine has yet to publicly respond, leaving the music community on edge.
This clash between a music legend and a rising star raises questions about artistic boundaries and intellectual property in Uganda’s vibrant industry. Will Mikie Wine settle the dispute, or is a courtroom battle looming? As the deadline approaches, all eyes are on this high-stakes showdown.
