NRM extends open invitation to opposition politicians to attend its April 7–15, 2026 parliamentary retreat at Kyankwanzi, where they can present papers on national development. President Museveni to open and close the session.
In a surprise gesture of political inclusivity, Uganda’s ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has thrown open the doors of its annual parliamentary retreat to opposition politicians, inviting them to join discussions on the country’s future.

NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong confirmed that any opposition members who wish to attend will be warmly welcomed and even given the opportunity to present papers on the role of the opposition in Uganda’s development agenda.
The week-long retreat runs from Tuesday, April 7 to Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi. It is primarily meant to orient newly elected Members of Parliament on NRM ideology, governance priorities, and policy direction.

The gathering will bring together first-time NRM MPs, returning legislators, and a growing number of independent MPs who have already signed cooperation agreements with the party. Participants are expected to report to Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala on Monday, April 6 for accreditation and health checks before heading to Kyankwanzi the next day.
NRM Deputy Secretary General Rose Namayanja Nsereko said the retreat will focus on aligning all participants around the party’s vision of steering Uganda toward higher middle-income status. Key discussion topics will include governance, security, regional geopolitics, economic policy (popularly known as “Musevenomics”), infrastructure, agriculture, human capital development, and the legislative duties of Parliament.
Special emphasis will be placed on equipping younger and first-time MPs with a solid understanding of NRM principles to enhance their effectiveness.
