Government Clears Maranatha Schools to Reopen Following Ggaba Tragedy

The Government of Uganda has announced a partial reversal of the directives regarding school operations in Ggaba following last week’s tragic murder of four toddlers. The State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Balaam Barugahare, has shared the update while representing the government during a memorial service at Ggaba Community Church today.

The Minister has stated that Maranatha Primary School and Maranatha High School have now been cleared to resume operations immediately. While the initial order had affected the entire campus, the government has refined the closure to focus specifically on the site of the attack.

Ggaba Day Care Centre to Remain Closed

The government has clarified that the closure order continues to apply strictly to the Ggaba Early Childhood Development and Day Care Centre. This is where the brutal attack took place, and the facility remains inaccessible to allow for ongoing forensic investigations and to respect the sanctity of the crime scene.

The government has re-opened Maranatha Primary and High School, but Ggaba ECD remains closed after the murder attack, Minister Barugahare has emphasized during his address to the grieving congregation.

This latest revision by the government has aimed to balance urgent public safety concerns with the necessity of minimizing educational disruptions for older students. By allowing the primary and secondary sections to reopen, authorities have sought to restore a sense of normalcy for the hundreds of learners affected by the sudden shutdown.

Minister Barugahare has expressed the government’s commitment to enhancing security protocols across all educational institutions to prevent such a tragedy from recurring. As the Maranatha schools prepare to welcome back students, the community continues to offer prayers and support for the families of the four toddlers whose lives were cut short in the horrific assault
