Masaka Businessman Bosco Bitanda (Sennyonjo) and His Two Children Among Three Killed in Expressway Crash

Heartbreaking update: Prominent Masaka businessman Bosco Sennyonjo, aka Bosco Bitanda, and his two children perished in a single-vehicle crash on the Kampala–Entebbe Expressway on March 16, 2026, after the driver reportedly fell asleep from fatigue.

In a devastating turn that has shocked Masaka’s business community and beyond, the victims of Monday’s fatal single-vehicle crash on the Kampala–Entebbe Expressway have been named: prominent Masaka City businessman Bosco Sennyonjo—widely known as Bosco Bitanda—and his two children tragically lost their lives on the spot.

The accident unfolded in the early hours of March 16, 2026, along the Mpala section near Kajjansi as their vehicle headed from Masaka toward Entebbe International Airport. Preliminary findings from expressway officials point squarely to driver fatigue: after a lengthy journey, the driver is believed to have dozed off, causing the vehicle to lose control and crash violently.

Three occupants—Bosco Bitanda and his two children—died instantly in the rollover. A fourth passenger escaped with serious injuries and was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where treatment continues.

Expressway management’s Incident Response team, working hand-in-hand with Uganda Police, quickly secured the scene, cleared the wreckage, and eased traffic disruptions while the investigation proceeds.

The accident scene

In their official statement, expressway authorities expressed profound grief: “Tragically, three occupants lost their lives, while one sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wish the injured a speedy recovery.” They also highlighted their close collaboration with police to manage the aftermath safely.

Allan Ssempebwa, Communications Officer at the Ministry of Works and Transport, corroborated the details: “A road crash was reported this morning along the Mpala–Kajjansi section involving one vehicle. Preliminary reports indicate fatalities and injuries; our teams, including KEE and Police, are handling the incident as finer details emerge.”

This sorrowful incident has amplified calls for heightened road safety, particularly on long-haul routes. Officials are once again urging drivers to prioritize rest before extended trips, never push through tiredness, and adhere strictly to speed limits—reminding everyone that fatigue remains one of the deadliest threats on Uganda’s highways.

As tributes pour in for Bosco Bitanda—a respected entrepreneur whose passing leaves a void in Masaka’s commercial scene—the crash serves as a somber wake-up call: every journey demands vigilance, rest, and caution. May the families find strength in this difficult time.
