Caroline Marcah Calls Out Kampala Dating Scene: “Saunas and Pork Joints Aren’t Dates – They’re Hookups”

Ugandan media personality Caroline Marcah has sparked debate on modern dating in Kampala, warning young women against mistaking casual hookups for genuine dates and settling for low-effort meetups that lead to heartbreak.

In a candid interview, Marcah lamented that the traditional art of dating appears to have “died out” in the city, with many relationships crumbling due to weak foundations built on cheap or misleading outings.

She drew a clear line between real dates and casual encounters: “Going to a sauna? That’s not a date. A pork joint? That’s not a date. We have to differentiate between a hookup and a date. Most people are actually going on hookups.”

Marcah emphasized that these low-key meetups often create mismatched expectations—women enter hoping for something serious, while the setup signals otherwise.

She placed much of the responsibility on women for not reading the signs early: “Sometimes we fault these men for no reason because men show the truth from the start, and we are blinded and don’t want to believe it.”

Drawing from personal experience, Marcah advised maintaining clarity and self-awareness: “Love is blind, but you should keep some sense.” She noted that while strong initial vibes can spark genuine interest, it’s crucial not to emotionally project long-term potential onto casual interactions.
