ASP Bagenda Killed in Mukono Robbery Response

The Uganda Police Force is in deep mourning following the tragic death of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Bagenda, who was gunned down late Friday night while courageously responding to an armed robbery in Mukono District.

Bagenda, the dedicated Officer in Charge (OC) of Ntaawo Police Post in Mukono Municipality, leaves behind a legacy of selfless service to his community. Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke confirmed the heartbreaking details in a morning briefing, painting a picture of a routine call turning deadly.

According to Rusoke, Bagenda and a fellow officer, a Police Constable, were alerted to a robbery in Kiwala village. As part of a coordinated effort, several area OCs set up roadblocks to intercept the suspects, who were fleeing on two motorcycles. “When Bagenda and his colleague spotted the speeding bikes, they moved to block them,” Rusoke recounted. “The criminals opened fire without warning.”

Bagenda succumbed to his gunshot wounds at the scene, while the constable survived with injuries and is now recovering in hospital under close watch. His body has been taken to the mortuary as investigations intensify.

Rusoke vowed swift justice: “We are hunting these cowards down. They will face the full weight of the law—no mercy for those who target our brave officers.”

The incident has sent shockwaves through Mukono and beyond, with residents praising Bagenda’s commitment to safety. “He was always the first to respond, day or night,” one local trader shared. Similar robberies have plagued the area recently, underscoring the dangers frontline officers face daily.

The police force extended condolences to Bagenda’s family, colleagues, and the Mukono community, calling for public tips to aid the manhunt.
