Uganda Cranes bounce back with a 3-0 win over Guinea at CHAN 2024, led by Mpande, Okello, and Ahimbibwe, reviving knockout dreams.
The Uganda Cranes electrified Namboole Stadium in Kampala with a commanding 3-0 victory over Guinea at the CHAN 2024 tournament, co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The emphatic win, a stunning turnaround after a 3-0 loss to Algeria in their opener, has reignited the hosts’ hopes of advancing to the knockout stages and sent fans into a frenzy.

Reagan Mpande set the tone in the 35th minute, soaring for a powerful header that sparked wild celebrations under the stadium’s lights. The Cranes’ dominance continued into the second half, with Allan Okello coolly slotting home a penalty in the 62nd minute. A tense moment followed when Guinea was briefly awarded a penalty, only for VAR to overturn the call, drawing a collective sigh of relief from the packed home crowd. KCCA FC’s star Ivan Ahimbibwe sealed the rout in the 90th minute with a sublime finish, sending Namboole into raptures.
With this win, Uganda climbs to second in Group C with three points, trailing Algeria’s four points after their 1-1 draw with South Africa. Guinea also holds three points, while South Africa and Niger, yet to face off, sit in fourth and fifth. The Cranes’ resurgence, backed by President Museveni’s Shs1.2 billion per-win bonus pledge, has tightened the group race and fueled national pride.

As Uganda prepares for their next clash, the momentum is palpable. Can the Cranes sustain this fire and secure a knockout spot? With the home crowd behind them, CHAN 2024 is shaping up as a thrilling ride for the hosts.
