Shamim Malende Boosts NUP with Shs10M Donation as 2026 Election Vetting Kicks Off

Kampala MP Shamim Malende donates Shs10M to NUP’s 2026 election prep, launching a week-long vetting for parliamentary candidates.

Kampala Woman MP Shamim Malende has made a bold move to strengthen the National Unity Platform (NUP) by donating Shs10 million to kick off the party’s week-long vetting exercise for parliamentary flag bearers in Kampala. The donation, presented on Monday at NUP’s Makerere-Kavule headquarters, marks a significant step in the party’s ambitious fundraising campaign to fuel its 2026 presidential and parliamentary election efforts.

Speaking at the launch, Malende framed her contribution as a heartfelt pledge to NUP’s mission of political transformation. “This is a token of my commitment to our cause and a call to all supporters to invest in Uganda’s future,” she declared. “Kampala needs leaders who are dedicated, capable, and true voices of the people.” Urging party members and supporters to dig deep, Malende emphasized the importance of financial independence to sustain NUP’s grassroots momentum.

NUP’s nationwide fundraising drive, launched on July 9, aims to raise Shs9 billion to support campaign logistics, candidate backing, and voter outreach. While party officials remain tight-lipped about the total funds collected so far, contributions are said to be flowing steadily. The Kampala vetting process is a critical first step, setting the stage for similar exercises nationwide as NUP gears up to challenge the ruling National Resistance Movement in the high-stakes 2026 elections.

Malende’s donation and the vetting launch have sparked excitement among NUP supporters, with social media buzzing about the party’s growing strength. Will this financial and strategic push propel NUP to new heights in 2026? As the vetting unfolds, Uganda’s political landscape is heating up.
