Mama D, Uganda’s cooking marathon star, survived pre-eclampsia to welcome twins. Help her cover hospital bills with #SaveMaamaDee. Donate now!
Dorcus Basheba Kirabo, popularly known as Mama D, welcomed a boy and a girl via cesarean section on Saturday, July 19, 2025, in a heartwarming yet challenging moment. The Ugandan icon, famous for her spirited attempts at the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon, faced a life-threatening battle with pre-eclampsia during her pregnancy. Now, as her newborn twins receive intensive care, Mama D needs our help to cover mounting hospital bills.

Mama D’s journey to motherhood was far from easy. Pre-eclampsia, a dangerous condition characterized by high blood pressure, nearly claimed her life. Thanks to an emergency C-section, her twins were safely delivered, but they remain in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for specialized care.
However, the joy of welcoming her twins is overshadowed by financial strain. Unable to clear the hospital bills, Mama D faces the stress of being stuck in medical debt. Her emotional plea, shared through journalist Gabriel Buule, has sparked a wave of support across social media.
Ugandans and supporters worldwide are stepping up through a fundraising campaign led by journalist Gabriel Buule and UOX President Gideon Nova Kwikiriza. Posts on X highlight Mama D’s contributions to her community, from feeding Kiteezi residents to supporting political prisoners, making her a beloved figure. “She stood with many; let’s stand with her,” one user urged.
The campaign, tagged #SaveMaamaDee, encourages donations to help Mama D and her twins leave the hospital. You can contribute directly via:
