How Ugandan Artists Can Rule the Global Stage: Joshua Baraka’s Bold Vision

Joshua Baraka shares how Ugandan artists can dominate globally with smart marketing and inclusive sound. Discover Uganda’s music revolution!

Kampala’s own Joshua Baraka, a rising star in Uganda’s music scene, is on a mission to prove that Ugandan artists can dominate the global stage. Known for hits like Nana and Wrong Places, Baraka recently debunked the myth that Ugandan musicians lack the creativity to compete internationally. In an interview, he argued that the real challenge lies in strategic marketing and packaging music to resonate with global audiences.

Baraka firmly rejects the notion that Ugandan artists fall short creatively. “Our artists have the talent to shine worldwide,” he says. With over 20 million streams and collaborations with Afrobeats stars like Joeboy, Baraka’s genre-blending mix of Afrobeat, R&B, and Kidandali proves his point. His success as a Spotify RADAR Africa artist and a 2025 Trace Awards nominee shows Uganda’s potential. The issue, he explains, is not a lack of skill but a need for music that’s “packaged inclusively” for diverse markets.

Baraka sees himself as a bridge for East African music. “I want to get more eyes on Uganda,” he says. His performances at events like Afro Nation in Portugal and features on OkayAfrica are opening doors for other Ugandan artists. By leveraging platforms like Spotify’s RADAR program, he’s paving the way for the next generation.
