In a heart-stopping incident on Tuesday, Uganda’s Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Balaam Barugahara, narrowly escaped disaster in a devastating road accident in Kagadi District. The minister was en route to Fort Portal to attend the highly anticipated Tooro Kingdom Annual Youth Conference when tragedy struck, leaving a community in mourning and raising awareness about road safety in Uganda.

The accident occurred when the minister’s convoy collided with a boda boda (motorcycle taxi) on a busy stretch of road in Kagadi District. Tragically, the collision claimed the life of the motorcycle rider, whose identity has not yet been publicly disclosed. The sudden loss has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the dangers faced by boda boda riders, a critical mode of transport across Uganda.

Two members of Hon. Balaam’s entourage sustained injuries in the crash and are currently receiving medical treatment. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, with preliminary reports pointing to the challenging road conditions often encountered in the region.

In a heartfelt statement released shortly after the incident, Hon. Balaam expressed profound gratitude for his survival, attributing his safety to divine intervention and the quick thinking of his driver.

“By the grace of God, I am safe. I owe immense thanks to our driver, whose swift actions and skillful driving prevented an even greater tragedy. My heart goes out to the family of the deceased rider—may their soul rest in eternal peace. I also pray for a speedy recovery for those injured,” the minister said.

According to sources close to the minister, Hon. Balaam and his team are in stable condition following the accident. The injured members of his entourage are under medical care, with doctors optimistic about their recovery. The minister has pledged to support the affected families and ensure that those injured receive the best possible treatment.
